Capital Trophy, an awards and engraving company based in Salem, Oregon, has been serving its community with high-quality, custom-engraved products since 1993. Founded by Jodell Bayan and her husband, the company built its reputation on meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational processes, and exceptional customer service. Today, under the leadership of Kari Wiens, Capital Trophy continues to uphold these values while streamlining operations with Odoo.

Kari Wiens joined Capital Trophy in 2009, without prior experience in the personalization industry. She initially started working there at the age of 17, mostly learning on the job as the only other employee left unexpectedly.

“I became proficient in all areas of the business, not just production, and took on a leadership role despite my limited formal training. The company, which had primarily grown through word-of-mouth referrals, especially within the sports industry, relied on my adaptability and hands-on approach.”

By 2018, Kari officially took over as the owner. Her first year was marked by strong growth, but the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 posed significant challenges, requiring her to lay off staff and adapt to a difficult economic environment. However, by 2022, the business was thriving once again. Kari moved the company to a more visible location, managed to rebuild her team, and then started looking for ways to streamline processes and gain more efficiency.

Finding the right fit:
Why Odoo?

As a company that specializes in customized awards and engraving, Capital Trophy must manage a vast number of unique orders, each requiring precise execution. Given that every product is customized, maintaining accurate records, tracking order histories, and ensuring smooth production workflows were critical but increasingly challenging tasks as volume grew. In the past, Capital Trophy relied on manual processes, making it difficult to scale operations while maintaining their high standards of quality and customer service.

Kari explored several software options, including Quickbooks, SAP, Monday, NetSuite, Infor, and more. She found them either too expensive or not tailored to her specific needs. Eventually, after doing more research she found Odoo, which offered the perfect combination of affordability, flexibility, and scalability.

“We needed a system that could handle everything from sales to manufacturing to inventory management, all in one platform. Odoo offered the exact combination of functionality we were looking for, without the huge upfront costs of other systems.”

Streamlining operations
with Odoo

With Odoo, Capital Trophy has achieved:

From three systems to just one: Before adopting Odoo, Capital Trophy had information stored across three different systems, creating inefficiencies and complicating access. With Odoo, everything is now consolidated in one place..

Automate data entry: With the platform, Capital Trophy is automating much of the redundant data entry that was previously time-consuming, significantly improving productivity.

Paperless: Odoo enables the company to go paperless, further enhancing operational efficiency and reducing waste.

Remote Access: Everything is accessible via online servers which makes remote work a possibility for company workers.

As one of the key differentiators of Capital Trophy is its commitment to quality, Odoo has helped Kari Wiens to keep a strong focus on customer service and craftsmanship.

“Everything we do is custom, so precision is crucial. With Odoo, we can keep everything organized, ensuring we meet our customers’ expectations.”

Owner of Capital Trophy

Today, Capital Trophy continues to thrive, serving a wide range of customers primarily within the Willamette Valley region of Oregon. Although most of their clientele are government entities, and medium to large organizations, the company also fulfills orders for individuals and other small businesses in need of high-quality awards or engraving services.

With a strong foundation in place, Capital Trophy is well-positioned for future growth. As they look ahead, Kari and her team remain committed to innovation while staying true to the legacy that has defined the business for over three decades.

Over the next year, Kari plans to fine-tune the system and optimize workflows for greater efficiency. A key part of this strategy is fully integrating her product catalog into Odoo’s e-commerce platform. Currently, Capital Trophy redirects customers to a third-party website for online orders, but Kari’s goal is to consolidate everything within Odoo. Due to the highly customizable nature of her products—each with a potential for up to 500 variants—this transition will take time but ultimately enhance the shopping experience for customers while streamlining internal processes.

Whether you're looking to honor your employees, recognize achievements, or elevate your brand, Capital Trophy's commitment to quality and customer satisfaction ensures a lasting impression. Odoo's powerful suite of integrated applications also plays a key role in improving operations and boosting productivity, making it an ideal solution for businesses across all industries—just as it has helped Capital Trophy enhance its service delivery and operational efficiency.
