Hello,

I have Odoo v16 community enterprise installed on EC2 for free for a year, however i have added third-party modules to try and run these modules as i have noticed that i cannot add other apps into a free subscription but i see that these third-party modules cannot be run with the pre-configured application (Helpdesk). The aim is to run helpdesk with other apps like CRM on the same URL not to have multiple url's, one for eLearning, Helpdesk etc.

Also does Odoo allow multitenancy option? To have multiple companies, assign different modules without company A having access to Company B? If so, will these companies have unique URL's to access modules?

Is there any documentation for the above inorder to successfully configure and deploy this solution. This will really help.

  1. Running Multiple Apps on the Same URL:
    • Yes, you can run multiple apps (like Helpdesk, CRM, and others) on the same URL in Odoo. This is typically done through Odoo's modular architecture, where you install and configure multiple modules under the same Odoo instance. The issue you're facing with third-party modules may be due to compatibility issues between the modules or the specific version of Odoo you're using.
    • Solution: Ensure that the third-party modules are compatible with the version of Odoo you're running. You may also want to try re-installing or re-configuring the third-party modules or checking for any conflicting dependencies.
  2. Multitenancy in Odoo:
    • Multitenancy is not natively supported in Odoo Community, but Odoo Enterprise offers multi-company support. This allows you to have multiple companies within a single Odoo instance and assign modules specific to each company.
    • Each company can be isolated in terms of data and access, meaning Company A will not have access to Company B's data unless explicitly configured otherwise.
    • Unique URLs for different companies: Odoo does not natively provide unique URLs for different companies within the same Odoo instance. However, you can configure Odoo to create multiple databases for each company if you want them to be accessible through unique URLs (this is typically done by setting up separate Odoo instances for each company).
  3. Documentation for Configuration: Additionally, you may need to consult the documentation or support resources for any third-party modules you’re using to make sure they are compatible and properly configured in your environment.

  • If you're facing issues:
    • It’s likely due to:
      • Incompatible third-party modules
      • Missing dependencies
      • Wrong configurations
    • Fix: Make sure you’ve placed the third-party modules in the correct addons path and updated the module list via terminal (-u all or selectively), and ensure they support your version (v16).
  • No need for multiple URLs to access different apps — the interface adapts based on installed modules and user permissions.

Limitations in Community Edition

  • Community edition does not support Helpdesk or advanced multi-company features out of the box.
  • You can only use basic apps like Sales, Inventory, Invoicing, CRM, etc.
  • Adding apps via third-party modules is possible, but not officially supported in the free online version — works best in self-hosted setups like your EC2.
